COVID-19 PANDEMIC RECOVERY

Steady, as we grow...

I appreciate that we are living in very difficult times. The pandemic, the oil crisis, and the economic downturn have had devastating effects on many Beaumontonians. However, I believe we are a strong, resilient, caring community that looks ahead without deliberately leaving anyone behind.

I have three perspectives.

Reviewing the past, today’s reality, and looking ahead to the future.

Which brings me to today’s reality. This year was a hard year for many of us. We have not given up, but we are definitely having to be more cautious in our projections. It is often said that municipalities are the closest government to the people. During this pandemic we are seeing how true that statement is. Holding the line on taxes, allowing residents to defer the payment of their taxes, and implementing health and safety restrictions were important ways that Council responded to residents’ needs this year.

I want to look ahead. I am optimistic that Beaumont will continue to be a small, but mighty City. A home for individuals of all ages and families to grow their roots. Our location, our young population, and our spirit will continue to serve us well.

I believe in supporting employment growth closer to where we live. I believe we have the land and the resources to become more sustainable, but we need to be strategic and measured in our approach. This is not an easy task, but I believe in the process and have confidence that together we can achieve our goals.
